Future Projects
The BPNA is currently working on the following projects and looking for feedback from local residents on their ideas.

Street Lights
There are two streetlights on Burrell Court, more than the allotted 600 feet apart, leaving the middle of the street in complete darkness. This is especially dangerous because of the poor sidewalks and narrow street with an abundance of parked cars and increases the opportunities for vandals. After circulating and submitting a petition to the San Jose’s Department of Transportation in early 2024, the city assessed the situation and determined that three lights are needed that would cost between $270K to $290K. There is not money in the budget for this at his time and this project is on their waitlist.
In the meantime, we are investigating the possibility of installing solar lighting in the front yards of several homes as an interim solution. The lights would be paid for by the BPNA.

Sidewalk Repair
Not only are many of the homes in Burrell Park 100 years old, but so are many of the sidewalks. Many show their age and need repair or replacement for the resident’s safety.
Many residents aren't aware but even though sidewalks are a public right-of-way, the property owners are responsible for the condition of the sidewalks in front of their private residences.
Because many of the homeowners living in Burrell Park are seniors on low or fixed incomes, the cost of repairing the sidewalks can be an onerous expense.
However, sidewalks are a safety issue and we are fortunate to live in a walkable neighborhood. The BPNA wants to encourage and support sidewalk maintenance.
We are investigating local grants to help offset the cost and/or looking at providing matching funds or other methods to make it easier for local residents to repair their sidewalks.
